故事背景設定在1950年代，阿德萊恩·魯道夫飾演超自然現象研究與防御局 (BPRD) 的一名菜鳥特工，她與地獄男爵聯手保護阿巴拉契亞居民免受恐怖的扭曲人的侵害，而扭曲人在為惡魔收集靈魂。傳說地獄男爵還是嬰兒時就被BPRD創始人 Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm教授發現，并被培養來保護人類免受比他更不開明的怪物的侵害。
